Webix has always been keen on user interface design and user experience (UX).

We began humbly designing annual reports, 12K wraps, brochures and corporate identity since 1994 as Armstrong Creative. Even the "info graphics" that is now part of the web.

Today's website design is about less is more. Easy to digest and responsive on every device. Having to think really hurts web views, so gone is the intuitive hunting game of the 90s.

Many of our designs keep elements simple and not too heavy visually. Simplicity can always become complex. Letting the flow of graphical information digest in a natural way for the viewer. This is key to many designs today. What every user, like you, me, asks, "Where am I, What can I do here, and (most importantly) WHY DO I WANT TO DO THAT"?

Using these simple questions, we can then determine what the structure and intent of the webpage. Is it a shopping cart? Do we show product photos? Are they "sexy" enough to click or just "ehh" I've seen that before? Ask yourself, every webpage you visit, what can I do here and why do I want to do that. You begin to either see how well the content is shuttled to you in an orderly fashion, OR you become confused and start hunting for your next action.

We approach website design with the question, what do we want the visitor to accomplish? Is it a purchase, a conversion or just sign up to an email list? Many things to consider, but it becomes very clear when you compare the competition's same intent.

WEBSITE DEVELOPMENT

In 1993 we were hand coding shopping carts and static websites to the dismay of businesses that had no idea what the internet even would mean to them. Now it's indispensable.

Webix officially started in 1996, primarily with Quick Time Virtual Reality. Quite ahead of it's time, we had success in delivering CD-ROM visual walk throughs with a click of the mouse. Early adaptors were thrilled, late adapters were scared out of their minds. The real estate industry believed QTVR was going to take their jobs away! Not quite, now the same concept is used on many home sales websites. 

Clients wanted to control their own content so we began developing dynamic websites in the late 90s with Cold Fusion. If you see a ".cfm" behind any page, you'll know that MacroMedia, who's long gone, still left a mark on the internet that's still with us today. We used MSSQL until the licensing didn't make sense and switched to MySQL in early 2000s. 

Today, WordPress dominates the website development industry and for good reason; It's economical to develop and custom code is easier to manage. The web industry long ago split up the design from code, so changing out designs is much easier today. Our website code is guaranteed to work on all devices and platforms or we make it right!

WEBSITE HOSTING

100% Uptime, True Data Warehouse. This is a pretty common phrase in hosting, but it's not painting the entire picture. First of all, that would be like guaranteeing there will never be outages such as from the internet, electrical power sources, or God forbid, acts of God.

Webix began hosting its own websites on our hardware in 1997, after a well-known hosting company in Dallas, Texas gave away our FTP credentials to a competitor. That was ‘no bueno’ in our world. By 2001 we were hosting several dozen websites on a single T-1 in our office. Not much for redundancy, but guess what? It was up 99.99% of the time and there were no complaints!

Hardware upkeep is a busy business, so we migrated all of our websites to Rackspace in the mid-2000s until they were sold to Liquid Web. During this time, we were always searching for better and bigger hosting companies. When we finally settled on a large hosting company in Texas, a conglomerate out of the Northeast began purchasing all of the large Texas companies.

Now, we strictly host on Virtual Private Server (VPS) environments with a non-EIG (Endurance International Group) company.

Webix is committed to all hosting clients that their website is malware free, and fast and accurate on all devices. If there is ever an issue, we will resolve it, repair it, or rebuild the website at no charge, as part of our Website Hosting Maintenance Program.

SEO

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) originally meant optimizing a website for best rankings in the Search Engines (Google, Yahoo, Bing, etc). Today, SEO is broken down into "On-Page" and "Off-Page." For example, On-page is everything that is done within the build of the website. This is optimizing for structure, speed, and all the types of data that search crawlers (bots/spiders) use to index a website. This includes keywords, meta data, and more. Without question, meticulous On-Page SEO is vital for a site to be found and indexed properly in the SERPS. Typically, On-Page SEO is only revised when new content is added.

Off-Page SEO is everything that is done outside of the website. This is a bit more complex as it involves several types of tasks, such as link building, revenue collection set-up, and social media connections.

Best Practice Off-Page SEO is achieved by following Google’s preferred set of "SEO Signals." Currently, there are approximately 25 signals that tell Google where to place a website in the search results. This varies with many other factors in Google's search algorithm. Off-Page SEO can also be whitehat or blackhat (whether or not it follows Google's general optimization guidelines).

Webix strictly adheres to Google's best practices and will never endanger a website with blackhat SEO tactics. While we've never seen it, domains with blackhat tactics can be blacklisted (sandboxed) from Google.

High website rankings take time. Long gone are the days when a single website would be at the top of page one of Altavista in a week of launching. Today's website rankings are very technical, granular and measurable to a large degree. Each and every website is unique in their SERPS ranking.

We analyze all aspects of a website's ranking to recommend the best practices to bring it to position one on Google, Yahoo and Bing. However, no one can guarantee a first place position on Google, unless perhaps, you’re BFFs with Sergey.

Webix consulting service offers clients the expertise of 15 years of SEO; 30 years of design communication in a variety of mediums; and 25 years of web experience. We cannot be everything to everyone, however, our wheelhouse is well rounded with design, communication, marketing and programming.

When clients have an in-house IT staff and marketing company, they seldom want to take on hosting or maintaining the website. Webix can offer consulting on the website, SEO and hosting— separately, or all together.

Consulting is also commonly requested when a client needs to understand what IT is telling them. We can break it down to layman's terms and not talk over anyone's heads. It's good to get a grasp on what your website should be providing for you; it’s a positive ROI!

Print Design and Production
Webix co-founder Mark Armstrong began honing his design skills in 1994 when he launched Armstrong Creative. There, he provided services for every aspect of brand development, from identity creation to the many applications of print. He devoured it all.

Mark and his team designed and produced entire trade show booths, 4-color annual reports with 12K financial wraps, and countless marketing materials — even Harley-Davidson product catalogs! Top Fortune 500 companies included Pacificare, HydroScience, Sprint Telecommunications and Compucom.
Printing was the world as we knew it!

We still enjoy print design but the demand for it has significantly decreased because of the low costs of online marketing.
